Company Overview

Our client consist of a small leadership team and four electricians in Wichita, KS. They are adding a Controller as a new, senior finance role reporting directly to one of the shareholders.

Role Overview
The Controller will be a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing financial and front office operations, streamlining processes, and integrating technology to improve efficiency. This role goes beyond reviewing report and will also focus on identifying operational bottlenecks, optimizing workflows, and enhancing organizational effectiveness. Previous Controller experience and a process-improvement mindset are required, while construction accounting experience is a plus.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, analyze, and maintain accurate financial reports and performance metrics for leadership.
  • Provide actionable insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Oversee front office operations and manage financial workflows for optimal efficiency.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements.
  • Develop, document, and optimize standard operating procedures.
  • Partner with leadership and project managers to ensure operational alignment.
  • Manage construction accounting functions, including sales tax compliance (county, state, national), certified payrolls, and union-related processes.
  • Leverage technology to streamline systems and improve productivity.
  • Foster a collaborative, positive, and solutions-focused team environment.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years of senior finance or Controller experience with hands-on accounting leadership.
  • Strong process-improvement skills and experience optimizing financial workflows.
  • Advanced Excel skills; proficiency in Sage and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in construction accounting a plus.
  • Ability to manage employees across multiple roles, including unionized positions.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work on-site full-time (8 AM–5 PM, 40-hour work week).

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $120,000
  • Total Compensation: Up to $170,000 with benefits
    • Retirement Plan: 25% company match
    • Health Insurance: 100% paid employee coverage (IBEW plan)
    • Paid Time Off: 2 weeks vacation to start, increasing annually to 4 weeks
