Outside of the individuals who interviewed you, it's likely that you won't see any other familiar faces in your first few days at a new job. So now is the perfect time to let your positive energy shine and shake off the "new-kid-on-the-block" jitters. If talking to new people pushes your anxiety buttons, then consider doing some prep work. Talk to your manager and ask for a list of people you should get familiar with in order to do your job well. Write out a small script and practice what you'll say ahead of time, so you feel confident when you encounter someone new. It's also a good idea to try and remember the names of those you meet. It helps to repeat a person's name back to them at the end of your first meeting and to continue to use it in follow-up conversations.
Your first few weeks at a new job will be filled with a ton of new information, so try not to get overwhelmed. Take notes to reference back to and be vocal when you need more direction on a particular issue. It's always better to ask your manager or co-workers what to do rather than waste time by performing a task incorrectly.
Now is the time to find out where the office supplies live and where the best place is to take your break. If you haven't been given a tour, ask a colleague to show you around when time permits. Be proactive and ask how to make the coffee so you can help by making a fresh pot. Inquire if you can decorate your workspace and make it your own.
