Job Seeker Report – Spring 2025 US Edition

The Job Seeker Report survey is conducted online by The Harris Poll on behalf of Express Employment Professionals among job seekers in the U.S. This biannual report tracks the latest job market trends across a wide range of industries. In addition to the latest trends impacting job seekers, the report also features training, development, and skills-building opportunities developed by Express to support job seekers in finding their next opportunity.

Job seekers are focusing on career mobility, often switching industries or roles for flexibility, fulfillment, and a better work culture.

Common reasons for seeking a new job include:

  • Better compensation (40%)
  • Growth opportunities in their current industry (38%)
  • Desired work-life balance (33%)
  • Monitoring the job market (27%)

The shifting dynamics of the workforce have led to a notable increase in older workers seeking entry-level positions.

  • 72% of job seekers say more older workers are applying for entry-level jobs than three years ago
  • 64% of job seekers agree workers over 65 will always have a place in the workforce
  • 88% of job seekers would participate in a program that allowed them to learn skills from older workers

Job seekers are prioritizing career mobility and are willing to make major changes to secure roles that align with their professional goals.

  • 56% of job seekers are interested in switching industries and/or switching functions
  • 58% of job seekers have switched careers at least once
  • 76% of job seekers say it’s never too late to switch careers
