What we're looking for in a Medical Coder Specialist:
- Hematology and Oncology coding and billing
- Pathology coding preferred
- Reviews charts in the workflow daily
- Maintains a thorough understanding of ICD-9, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes used in reimbursement and data collection
- Effectively communicates with physicians to clarify diagnoses, procedure coding, and documentation requirements, including proper sequencing
- Ensures all charges are no more than 14 days behind from the initial date of discharge
- Performs a comprehensive medical records review to ensure the presence of required components such as patient and record identification, signatures, dates, and other necessary data
- Reviews payer responsibility guidelines
- Promptly and accurately codes all services to the highest level of specificity and queries providers when necessary
