Summary/Objectives

A Machinist is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in creating and shaping metal parts and structures through the use of machine tools. They use a variety of equipment, such as lathes, milling machines, drills, saws, and grinders, to cut, shape, and finish metal components to create finished products. Machinists are responsible for reading and interpreting technical blueprints and schematics to ensure that the finished product meets specifications. They are also responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting the equipment they use.

Essential Functions

  1. Setting up and operating machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drills, saws, and grinders to cut, shape, and join metal components.
  2. Adjusting machine settings to ensure optimal performance and quality of the final product.
  3. Monitoring the machine during operation to ensure it is functioning correctly.
  4. Performing periodic quality checks.
  5. Troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise with the equipment.
  6. Performing routine preventative maintenance on the equipment to ensure it remains in good working condition.
  7. Training other operators on the proper use and maintenance of the equipment, as well as operational functions.
  8. Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure machine output meets quality standards and specifications.
  9. Maintaining accurate records and documentation of production, including quantity, quality, and time.
  10. Adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

11.  Follow department SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures).

  1. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

  1. Technical knowledge of machine tools and equipment used in metal fabrication, including lathes, milling machines, drills, saws, grinders, and associated component tools.
  2. Strong mathematical skills and the ability to work with measurements and calculations.
  3. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with precision.
  4. Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  5. Understanding of safety guidelines and procedures.
  6. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
  7. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Familiarity with the materials that are being processed.
  9. Strong mechanical aptitude.
  10. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to meet tight deadlines.
  11. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  12. Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
  13. Ability to read a tape measure, calipers, protractor, and micrometers.
  14. Ability to consistently utilize assigned locations i.e., staging lanes / shadow boards.
  15. Ability to become forklift certified.
  16. Willingness to continuously learn and develop new skills.

Physical Requirements

1.     Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully.

2.     Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

3.     Must maintain company machines and tools provided.

4.     Repetitive motions.

5.     Standing for long periods of time.

6.     Endurance.

7.     Lifting and carrying.

8.     Wearing personal protective equipment.

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, heat, cold, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
