Position: Plant Accountant
Location: Stuttgart, AR (Remote days available)
Position Summary:
The Plant Accountant plays a crucial role in the management team, reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO). The role involves overseeing the accounting operations, financial planning, and analysis to align with corporate policies and drive business performance. This position is key in providing strong financial leadership and actionable insights that contribute to the company's overall success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accounting Operations: Manage all accounting tasks, including Billing, Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), General Ledger (G/L), Inventory/Cost Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
- Month-End Closing & Reporting: Oversee the month-end closing process, prepare financial statements, and produce operational reports.
- Variance Analysis: Analyze financial variances, communicate findings to management, and recommend corrective actions.
- Forecasting: Prepare and present forecasts for income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work across organizational boundaries to achieve business goals and communicate financial insights to various stakeholders.
- Team Development: Lead and mentor a team of 5-7 employees, fostering their professional growth and sharing best practices for financial modeling and process improvements.
- Financial Consultation: Provide proactive consultation to departmental leaders on financial and operational matters, guiding decisions with financial data and analysis.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Implement and monitor plant internal controls, ensuring adherence to corporate policies and safeguarding company assets.
- Accounting Standards: Ensure compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
Specific Tasks:
- Monthly Financial Statements & Reconciliations: Prepare monthly financial statements, balance sheet account reconciliations, and ensure proper documentation.
- Sales Tax Submissions: Submit monthly sales tax reports for all states and maintain records electronically.
- Payroll & Tax Reporting: Handle state withholding submissions, quarterly reports, and annual tax form submissions (e.g., 940, W2, 1099).
- Property Tax & Franchise Tax: Confirm annual property tax assessments and handle franchise tax submissions across all states.
- Vendor Management: Maintain 1099 information for vendors.
- Inventory Accounting: Advise on inventory accounting practices and assist with inventory reconciliations and adjustments.
- Depreciation Schedule: Update depreciation schedules and assist with accounting team processing and issue resolution.
- COBRA Compliance: Monitor COBRA status and compliance with insurance carrier invoicing.
- Income Statement Review: Analyze the income statement for misclassifications and resolve discrepancies.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 5 years in a similar accounting role, with a focus on cost accounting and financial analysis.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting techniques, and financial statement analysis. Experience with cost accounting practices.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data, interpret financial reports, and solve complex problems.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with management, peers, and clients effectively.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, with a focus on collaboration and achieving common goals.
- Integrity: High standards of personal and professional integrity, demonstrating ethical business practices.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
