Position Overview

The welder performs a variety of functions that include spot, tack and seam MIG welding, Acetylene Soldering/Cutting, and Grinding. Reading and interpreting diagrams and project specifications. Tasks include but are not limited to assisting in other fabricating workstations and/or other duties as assigned. Understanding all safety standards and safe process practices.

Daily Job Duties:

  • Work closely with shift Supervisor, Foreman and Workcenter leads.
  • Will perform various functions related to welding, soldering and prep of steel, sheet metal, aluminum and stainless steel.
  • Will be required to process day-to-day priorities of planned orders and stocking commitments with supervisors, leads, and planners.
  • Communicate all discovered mechanical equipment issues to both maintenance and production supervisors for repair outside of capable adjustments.
  • Communicate all discovered damaged or mishandled equipment to supervisor.
  • Ensure optimal quality of the finished products and components processed.
  • Inspect components for damage and recommend repair or replacement prior to fusing them together.
  • Perform minor routine maintenance and adjustments to equipment as required.
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance, in conjunction with maintenance team.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Workcenter.
  • Timely completion of all production documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Safety Requirements

  • Follow all safety requirements, including the use and wear of proper PPE, welding masks, safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, aprons and cut-resistant sleeves.
  • Firm understanding of equipment and materials used
  • Maintain a uncluttered and well-ventilated workstation
  • Report known Injuries, near-misses and any safety incidents on the day that of occurrence.
  • Position requires individual to report to supervisor or management any individuals who are conducting their work in an unsafe or hazardous manner
  • Do not use or perform work duties with any piece of equipment that has functional defects and immediately report shift supervisor.
  • Individual will acknowledge all safety documentation, participate in all safety classes when required.

Qualifications:

·        Minimum of 1-2 years working experience as a welder or advanced apprenticeship

·        Have solid math skills, basic adding, subtracting, and use of tape measure

·        Steady hands and good hand-eye coordination

·        Attention to detail and ability to always learn new things

·        Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision

·        Solid communication skills both verbally and written, English as a second language a Plus

·        Current welding and or forklift certification a plus

·        Safety conscious always, conforms to the safety requirements and policies

·        Ability to work with others as a team and demonstrate flexibility when assigned to assist in other work-centers or assignments

Physical Requirements:

·        Able to lift fifty pounds with minimal effort

·        Position will require individual to move and lift various materials and items for purpose of staging, fusing, grinding and finishing

·        Position will require individual to stand, bend down for prolonged periods of time

.        Position will require individual be able climb and use various folding and roll-around ladders with minimal physical effort

.        Position will require individual work outside exposed to various weather conditions

·        Must wear steel toed shoes, durable clothes for safety consideration
