Maintenance Technician  

Operate and Maintain APM system and related subsystems at O&M site.  The Maintenance Technician will troubleshoot and identify failure causes; repair or initiate the repair of failed items and perform recovery/corrective or preventive maintenance of vehicle and wayside systems, subsystems, and components. Preventive maintenance, inspection, and adjustment tasks and procedures are well established and require normal supervision. Incumbents will follow the direction of higher-level personnel in preventive or corrective maintenance phases of work. Associates exercise considerable latitude and open judgment in the troubleshooting and recommended repair of equipment.

  • Operate, troubleshoot, and repair Central Control computer console, or Wayside systems, or vehicles and components as assigned.
  • Inspect vehicles and related equipment to detect failed or improperly operating equipment.
  • Operate trains, doors, guideway switches, and power distribution systems in a manual mode.
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems inspection following established procedures or other written or verbal instructions.
  • Repair or replace defective parts or equipment utilizing manuals, drawings, specs, and other written or verbal instructions.
  • Support recovery of malfunctioning vehicles from system as needed.
  • Respond to system failures to recover vehicles and restore system operation.
  • Respond to customer requests in a timely fashion
  • Assist passengers during emergency operations.
  • Conduct thorough and complete preventive maintenance checks on vehicles, systems, and subsystems as assigned.
  • Achieve and maintain all functional certifications in assigned area.
  • Participate in continuous learning and progression through training programs

 Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient in the English Language
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work a 24/7/365 schedule, including weekends & holidays
  • Must be able to work variable hours and shifts
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical maintenance concepts
  • Use of hand tools and power tools
  • Use of basic electrical and mechanical test equipment
  • Read and interpret manuals, diagrams and schematics
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively
  • Ability to follow procedures and safe work practices
  • Ability to document work on written forms and/or computerized forms
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and operate independently as well as part of a team
  • Disciplined, self-starter, ability to handle down time and high stress
  • Must obtain and maintain certifications in compliance with all state and federal regulations applicable to this position
  • Basic computer skills, including a working knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Safety first attitude required. Ability to perform all work using the proper personnel protective equipment (PPE) and in strict accordance with all applicable safety policies, procedures and practices required

  • Ability to work on elevated surfaces
  • Ability to work inside the facility or outside in various weather elements 
  • Ability to work in a train yard with live power rails and moving equipment.
  • Able to operate heavy equipment, cranes, forklifts and Company vehicles.
  • Ability to work in environments that include:
    • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts
    • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat
    • Risk of electrical shock and vibration
    • Moderate to loud noise level

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal training or education in electromechanical field
  • Engineering, technical school, or similar training/education required, relevant experience may be a substitute.
  • Knowledge of railroad, APM, or transportation industry a plus
  • Knowledge in basic electronic theory
  • Aptitude for mechanical operations, and operation of equipment
  • Knowledge in the use and application of a variety of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge in the use of simple electronic equipment
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of tasks and duties.
  • Capacity to learn a variety of equipment operations.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions
  • Problem Solving
  • Interpersonal & Communication Skills
    • For reasons of safety and efficiency, communication skills, both spoken and written are critical.
  • Preferably an Associate degree (A.S.) in a related mechanical or technical discipline and/or Vocational Training/Certification in a related discipline.
  • Previous work experience may be recognized in lieu of formal education.
