Benicia Company seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manual Machinist to join their team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating and maintaining manual machining equipment, such as lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses. You will be responsible for fabricating, modifying, and repairing precision parts to exact specifications while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set Up and Operation: Prepare and operate manual machines (e.g., lathes, milling machines, grinders) to perform precision machining operations.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and job specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of parts.
- Precision Machining: Shape, cut, and assemble metal or other materials to produce custom components.
- Inspection: Measure and inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to ensure they meet exact tolerances.
- Tooling and Maintenance: Select and maintain the proper tools, machine settings, and cutting speeds for various materials. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on machining equipment.
- Problem Solving: Identify and resolve issues with machining processes to maintain product quality and minimize downtime.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operation of machinery.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in machining is preferred.
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a Manual Machinist or similar role.
- Strong understanding of machining techniques, tools, and materials.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of shop math and the ability to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and feeds/speeds.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs).
- Standing for extended periods while operating machinery.
- Manual dexterity and excellent hand-eye coordination.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with specialty materials, such as titanium, stainless steel, or composites.
- Familiarity with basic welding techniques or CNC programming.
- Prior experience in custom or small-batch manufacturing environments.
