Express is partnering with a large, local logistics/trucking company with a well-established history in Shasta County.

About the Position:

The Payroll & HR Administrator/Assistant is responsible for managing all payroll-related tasks and Human Resource requirements in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will handle employee payroll, benefits administration, and compliance while also addressing day-to-day HR activities, including recruitment support, onboarding, record-keeping, and benefits management. This role requires an understanding of payroll regulations and the ability to work with office and shop staff, drivers, and external vendors.

Job Description/ Responsibilities:

1.  Payroll:

Process bi-weekly payroll for all office staff and shop personnel 
Cross trained on bi-weekly payroll for all drivers 
Ensure accurate and timely payroll submission, including direct deposits and paychecks 
Handle payroll adjustments, deductions, garnishments, and reimbursements 
Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations 
Manage timekeeping systems, review timecards, and resolve discrepancies 
Manage employee paid time off, sick leave, and benefits deductions 
Handle driver per diem and reimbursements according to industry standards

2.  Human Resources:

Administer employee benefits including enrollments, changes, and terminations
Assist in recruiting, screening, and onboarding new employees, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and DOT regulations and background checks 
Maintain and update employee files, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations 
Coordinate annual training programs and certifications 
Address and resolve employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and HR policies 
Support disciplinary actions, performance reviews, and exit interviews 
Ensure payroll processes comply with all federal, state, and local laws, including wage and hour laws 
Prepare and submit quarterly and annual payroll reports (W-2s, 1099s, etc.) 
Stay updated on changes in payroll laws, HR policies, and applicable trucking regulations 
Manage and update payroll system, ensuring accurate data entry and reporting 
Collaborate with management to improve payroll and HR processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy 
Assist with special projects, including audits, policy updates, and employee engagement initiatives

Qualifications/Education/Skills/Experience:

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

Experience: 

1-2 years of experience in payroll and human resources 
Experience within the trucking or logistics industry a plus 
Familiarity with payroll software (e.g., AS-400, QuickBooks, or similar)

Skills: 

Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax regulations, and employee benefits administration 
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills 
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee data 
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking in a deadline-driven environment 
Excellent at meeting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and communication of status

Shift:

Full-time, Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm
