Job Full Description
Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery to support oil and gas downstream operations, which include refining, processing, and distribution. Their job duties typically include:
Equipment Operation
- Operate heavy machinery such as bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, backhoes, cranes, and forklifts.
- Load, unload, and transport materials such as crude oil, refined products, and construction materials.
- Ensure safe and precise handling of equipment to avoid damage or spills.
Site Preparation and Maintenance
- Clear and grade land for facility expansion or pipeline installations.
- Perform excavation and trenching for pipeline repairs or infrastructure upgrades.
- Maintain roads and access paths for smooth transportation of goods and personnel.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety regulations to prevent accidents.
- Conduct pre- and post-operation equipment inspections.
- Identify and report potential hazards, leaks, or structural weaknesses.
Material Handling and Logistics
- Transport raw materials and finished products within the refinery or processing plant.
- Load and unload tankers, railcars, or trucks as needed.
- Operate pumps, valves, and hoses to facilitate product movement.
Routine Equipment Maintenance
- Check fluid levels, tire pressure, and mechanical components.
- Perform minor repairs or coordinate with the maintenance team for servicing.
- Keep detailed logs of equipment usage and maintenance activities.
