COLD HEADING DEPARTMENT - Machine Operator {Cold Header Operator)

Full Time Job Summary
Sets up and operates automatic Coldheader machine to form and cut off coil stock to produce precision products.
Functional Description
Cold heading forms round wire stock into the essential various shapes while still "cold". A continuous, automatic operation, it nonetheless must retain continuity of grain to assure the full integrity of the fastener.
Work Performed
Sets up and operates automatic Coldheader machine to form and cut off coil stock to produce precision products. Also includes adjustment of machine to reduce stock size; adjustment of cold header machine multiple tools, multiple transfer fingers; use of cut-off tools and multiple dies. Because of the progressive (multiple steps) nature of the work, and the noticeability of variations of identical materials, a great amount of ingenuity and "feel" is required in set-up and in operation. May operate one (or more) machines.
Uses common hand tools, bench grinder, micrometers, optical comparators, and indicator plug, depth and go no-go gages. Operates above equipment in producing company products to desired specifications including checking output at required periods.
Qualifications
Requires knowledge of common hand tools including box and end wrenches, micrometer and scale. Must have mechanical aptitude and be familiar with shop practices and terminology. Must have knowledge of bench grinders, common gages and optical comparators, cutting tools and drawings. Requires one year's experience as a Cold Header Operator with another company, or several year's experience in another machining job. Three months in-company training is required to become familiar with company procedures.
