Job Full Description

Express Employment is seeking a skilled and experienced Staff Accountant for one of our local clients in the Hanford area. In this role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting tasks, including preparing financial statements within QuickBooks, processing Accounts Payable/Receivable, analyzing financial data, and assisting with audits. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment.

Staff Accountant Responsibilities:

  • Accurately record all financial transactions related to construction projects in the accounting system, ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Maintain the general ledger, ensuring it accurately reflects all construction-related financial transactions and supports reliable financial reporting.
  • Track and allocate project costs, including materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses, to ensure accurate project budgeting and cost management.
  • Monitor and report on project budgets, comparing actual costs to budgeted amounts and analyzing variances.
  • Process accounts payable by reviewing, verifying, and recording vendor invoices, ensuring timely payments and maintaining good vendor relationships.
  • Manage accounts receivable by issuing invoices to clients, tracking payments, and following up on overdue accounts to ensure timely collection.
  • Reconcile bank statements regularly, ensuring that all construction-related transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are promptly investigated and resolved.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports related to construction projects, providing insights into project profitability and financial performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring all construction project data is accurately reflected.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction project budgets, providing accurate cost estimates and forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance throughout the project lifecycle, identifying and addressing financial risks or issues.
  • Support payroll processing for construction project employees, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, taxes, and deductions, and assisting with the timely distribution of payroll.
  • Manage employee expense reports related to construction projects, ensuring compliance with company policies and accurate reimbursement.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and ensuring construction-related financial records are accurate and up to date.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, and other team members to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and other stakeholders to resolve any financial issues related to construction projects.

Staff Accountant Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field required
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting or related field
  • 2+ years of construction based accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Experience with accounting software (such as QuickBooks or Sage) and Microsoft Excel Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Staff Accountant Expectations:

The Staff Accountant position reports administratively to the RSI HRO Director, with a direct line of communication with RSI President for financial reporting. The position is expected to work 40-45 hours/week, with core hours being Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM, and available to support non-standard working hours as necessary. The position is currently a non-supervisory position, but may expand in future to supervise anticipated bookkeepers.
