AutoCAD Structural Steel Detailer

Job Overview:
Express Employment Professionals is hiring an AutoCAD Structural Steel Detailer for one of our Fort Pierce, FL clients. In this role you will be responsible for producing precise and detailed shop drawings for structural and miscellaneous steel components used in construction projects. Your role involves interpreting architectural and structural plans, using AutoCAD and Advanced Steel to develop high-quality designs, and ensuring all drawings comply with industry standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret Plans: Read and understand architectural, structural, and various trade drawings (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
- Produce Shop Drawings: Create detailed shop drawings for structural steel items (e.g., beams, columns, frames) and miscellaneous steel items (e.g., stairs, railings, lintels) showing dimensions, welds, holes, and locations.
- Utilize AutoCAD & Advanced Steel: Apply knowledge of AutoCAD to set up and create drawings. Use Advanced Steel for modeling structures, creating connections, detailing parts, and preparing fabrication sheets.
- Coordinate Information: Work closely with contractors, fabricators, and other trade professionals to gather and align information, identify conflicts, and ensure consistency across various project drawings.
- Weld & Fabrication Understanding: Apply understanding of basic weld types, sizes, and steel fabrication processes to ensure accuracy in designs and specifications.
- Geometry & Construction Calculations: Use geometry and algebra to calculate rise, run, radius, and other essential geometric elements involved in steel construction.
- Project Management: Manage drawing schedules to ensure timely delivery of all documentation. Communicate job progress and adjustments to stakeholders, and handle project revisions as needed.
- Fabrication & Erection Insight: Collaborate with fabricators to ensure shop drawings meet production standards. Understand and apply concepts of steel erection, such as tolerances, sequences, and safety requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Proven experience in structural steel design or detailing (typically 3+ years).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Advanced Steel.
- Familiarity with basic construction and fabrication techniques.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of architectural and structural drawings.
- Ability to apply geometric concepts (e.g., rise, run, radius).
- Basic knowledge of weld types, connection design, and steel fabrication.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in using Lisp Routines to enhance drawing productivity is a plus.
Preferred Knowledge:
- Knowledge of structural and miscellaneous steel detailing, including:
- Structural Steel: Anchor bolts, bearing plates, beams, columns, bracing, etc.
- Miscellaneous Steel: Stairs, railings, frames, and specialized metal fabrications.
- Basic understanding of construction sequence, safety issues, and trade coordination.
- Familiarity with field welding, bolting, and other steel erection challenges.
