Position Summary:

The Facility Care Manager lives on-site and oversees the day-to-day care of the property and all animal residents at the facility. Reporting to the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Manager ensures the welfare, safety, and proper care of animals, whether their stay is short- or long-term. Responsibilities include animal care such as feeding, grooming, and administering veterinary treatments, as well as managing vendors and ensuring property maintenance. The Manager will also work collaboratively to develop volunteer opportunities and supervise volunteers assisting in animal care as the Sanctuary grows.

Role Expectations:

  • Manage and oversee daily animal care and property operations at the facility.
  • Lead vendor management and coordinate property maintenance to ensure functionality and upkeep.
  • Provide the highest level of care for various animal species at the Facility.
  • Collaborate effectively with remote and on-site leadership, including the CVO.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the facility's mission, programs, and priorities.

Responsibilities:

Property Management:

  • Walk the property regularly to address maintenance issues and perform basic repairs as needed.
  • Oversee vendor work for routine maintenance and larger projects like construction.
  • Keep leadership informed of progress and any issues affecting the property or animals' welfare.

Animal Care:

  • Collaborate with the CVO to develop and implement husbandry plans for the facilities animals.
  • Maintain detailed records of animal care and follow veterinary instructions.
  • Provide daily food, water, grooming, and enrichment for the animals.
  • Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting concerns to the CVO.
  • Implement best practices to minimize stress and disease risks for the animals.
  • Administer basic first aid as needed and coordinate with veterinary providers for further care.
  • Assist in evaluating and integrating new animals into the facility.
  • Ensure proper stocking of supplies, including food, equipment, and medications.
  • Maintain the functionality of utilities, structures, and equipment on the property.
  • Assist with adoption events and manage volunteers or staff who help with animal care.
  • Conduct tours of the animal facilities as needed.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and follow established safety protocols.
  • Adhere to certified animal welfare standards for the facility's resident species.
  • Liaise with office staff and program teams regarding property needs and activities.

Essential Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science preferred.
  • Experience as a Licensed Animal Care Technician or equivalent is preferred.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, husbandry, and care; equine experience required.
  • Experience implementing animal husbandry best practices.
  • Basic property maintenance skills and the ability to address issues before they escalate.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Excel.
  • Ability to learn and use new technology for record-keeping and data management.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The position is based at the facility in Palm City, FL, and requires on-site residency.
  • Ability to lift, bend, push, pull, kneel, and perform manual tasks required for animal care and property management.
  • Exposure to potential animal hazards such as bites and zoonotic diseases.
  • May require immunizations for Hepatitis A & B, Rabies, and Tetanus.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • May be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
