A company in Tallapoosa is looking for a On-Site PLC Programmer. The On-Site PLC Programmer will be responsible for programming, troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving Siemens PLC systems within our manufacturing facility. This hands-on role requires a thorough understanding of Siemens PLCs, such as S7-1200, S7-1500, and TIA Portal, and their application to real-time manufacturing and automation processes. You will work directly on the factory floor, collaborating with the production, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure optimal system performance and minimal downtime. Additionally, you will play a key role in the startup and commissioning of new production lines, ensuring systems are integrated, tested, and operational from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

  • PLC Programming & Configuration: Develop, program, and modify Siemens PLC applications using TIA Portal, Step 7, and other Siemens tools for manufacturing automation systems.
  • Start-Up of Production Lines: Lead the startup and commissioning of new production lines, including programming and configuring the PLC systems, integrating machinery and automation equipment, and performing functional testing.
  • Work closely with project engineers, equipment suppliers, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of new systems.
  • Test and validate new production lines to ensure systems operate as designed, meeting performance and quality specifications.

  • Perform dry runs and simulations to verify control logic and functionality before full-scale production begins.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the commissioning process.
  • Develop and execute testing protocols for new systems and ensure all processes comply with quality and safety standards.
  • Troubleshooting & Support: Provide hands-on troubleshooting for Siemens PLCs, I/O devices, motors, sensors, and actuators. Resolve issues quickly to minimize production downtime.
  • System Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and upgrades on PLC-controlled systems to ensure long-term reliability, including firmware updates and system diagnostics.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize manufacturing processes through automation and control system adjustments. Implement improvements to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with production teams, engineers, and maintenance staff to troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues. Provide technical support and guidance for operators and technicians.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain detailed documentation of PLC programs, electrical schematics, system configurations, and troubleshooting logs.
  • Training: Provide on-the-job training for operators and maintenance staff on how to operate and troubleshoot PLC-based systems and equipment.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all programming and system changes comply with relevant safety standards, industry regulations, and company protocols.
  • Project Support: Assist in the installation, commissioning, and startup of new automation systems or modifications to existing systems. Participate in capital projects and system upgrades as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field; or equivalent technical training/experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience programming Siemens PLCs (S7-1200, S7-1500) in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Siemens TIA Portal, Step 7, Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and other programming languages used for PLC systems. Experience with Siemens HMI/SCADA systems (WinCC) is a plus.

  • Troubleshooting Skills: Strong ability to troubleshoot complex PLC, electrical, and automation system issues quickly and effectively in a high-pressure manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Automation: Familiarity with manufacturing equipment, automated machinery, and control systems. Experience with sensors, motors, drives, and actuators.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work well with cross-functional teams and train others.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately document work and adhere to safety and quality standards.
  • Flexibility: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, on-site manufacturing environment with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with other PLC brands (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi) is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
  • Experience with PLC-based motion control or robotics is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and protocols (e.g., NFPA, IEC 61508, ISO 13849) as they apply to automation and control systems.
