Job Summary:
The Shipping Clerk Lead will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the shipping team, ensuring accurate order fulfillment, timely dispatching of goods, and maintaining high standards of efficiency and organization within the shipping department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and Lead Team: Direct, mentor, and provide leadership to a team of shipping clerks, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Manage Shipping Operations: Oversee the picking, packing, and shipping of products to ensure accuracy, quality, and timely delivery. Ensure all shipments are processed and labeled correctly.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels and ensure that inventory is handled according to the company's procedures. Communicate with other departments regarding inventory discrepancies or shipping delays.
- Quality Control: Inspect outgoing shipments for damage or incorrect labeling and ensure that all orders meet company standards before they are dispatched.
- Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of shipments, including packing lists, bills of lading, tracking numbers, and any special shipping instructions.
- Coordinate with Other Departments: Work closely with the sales, warehouse, and customer service teams to ensure smooth communication and efficient processing of orders.
- Problem Resolution: Address any shipping issues or customer complaints, including resolving issues related to missing items, late shipments, or incorrect deliveries.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
- Training and Development: Provide training to new shipping clerks and ongoing guidance to ensure continued team development.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in shipping/warehouse operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and motivate a team, while fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of shipments.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for team coordination and customer interaction.
- Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with shipping software, order management systems, and MS Office Suite.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as packing and organizing shipments.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues related to shipping and inventory management.
