A Sit-down Forklift Operator is responsible for operating a sit-down forklift to move materials and products within a warehouse, distribution center, or other work environments. The forklift is designed for comfort as the operator sits while driving and handling the equipment, making it suitable for longer periods of work.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities:
- Operating Forklift: Safely drive and operate a sit-down forklift to transport goods and materials throughout the facility.
- Loading and Unloading: Assist in loading and unloading trucks and containers. Safely transport materials to designated storage areas or production lines.
- Inventory Management: Organize, stock, and store products in the correct locations. Help maintain accurate inventory counts.
- Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct daily inspections of the forklift to ensure it’s in good working order. Report any maintenance issues or malfunctions.
- Material Handling: Lift, move, and stack materials using the forklift's forks and attachments.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all company and safety policies and procedures, including the proper handling of hazardous materials and equipment operation protocols.
- Communication: Coordinate with warehouse staff, supervisors, and other departments to ensure the smooth flow of materials.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Valid forklift certification (sit-down type).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail and safety standards.
- Basic knowledge of warehouse management systems (optional but helpful).
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) as part of the job.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating the forklift.
- Physical stamina for lifting, bending, and loading/unloading materials.
- Comfort with operating machinery in varied environments, including indoor and outdoor spaces.
Working Environment:
- Warehouse or industrial setting with temperatures varying depending on the season.
- May involve exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and potentially hazardous materials. Proper safety gear (e.g., helmet, gloves) is required.
