Job Overview:
The Woodworker in a machine shop is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and finishing wood products using various power tools, machines, and hand tools. This role involves reading and interpreting technical drawings, setting up and operating woodworking machinery, and ensuring that projects meet quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working with wood in a production or machine shop environment and will be comfortable operating advanced woodworking machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate woodworking machines such as saws, lathes, routers, planers, and sanders to cut, shape, and smooth wood pieces according to specifications.
- Assemble and finish wood products by sanding, staining, varnishing, or painting as needed.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine the specifications for each project.
- Set up machines and adjust settings for different types of wood and cutting tasks.
- Measure and mark wood accurately to prepare for cutting and assembly.
- Inspect finished products for accuracy, quality, and craftsmanship, making adjustments as necessary.
- Maintain woodworking machinery and perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Keep work areas clean and organized, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines in the shop environment.
- Collaborate with other team members, including engineers and designers, to complete projects according to customer requirements and deadlines.
- Follow company safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of tools and materials.

Experience:
- Proven experience working as a woodworker or machine operator in a woodshop, machine shop, or similar environment.
- Familiarity with woodworking tools and machinery, including saws, drills, sanders, and routers.

- Ability to operate and maintain woodworking machinery with precision.
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Knowledge of various types of wood and their properties, including grain patterns, hardness, and finishing requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Familiarity with measurement tools such as calipers, rulers, and squares.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify and fix issues during production.
- Good manual dexterity and the ability to work with small parts or intricate wood pieces.
