Job Full Description
We are doing some exciting things with an aerospace and defense manufacturer in Westfield, IN who has asked us to help find a Mechanical Design Engineer. The company manufactures unmanned aerial systems for the military. As the Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the research, development, planning, and designs for our client’s current and future platforms. Responsibilities include creation of design concepts, performing feasibility evaluations, implementing designs including creating CAD models and production drawings, and design verification by analysis and test.

Must be able to obtain DOD Security Clearance and meet ITAR compliance standards
Your Primary Responsibilities as the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Mechanical component design and optimization for aerostat platform
- Creating 3D models & 2D drawings in SOLIDWORKS
- Utilize knowledge of materials, machining, fabrication, assembly methods, and component design concepts to define qualification requirements
- Sourcing & evaluation of parts as part of design process
- Rapidly prototype and test new concepts
- Oversee design transfer to manufacturing
- Participate in software, electronics, and systems design requirements/reviews for identification of metrics, system risk, and reliability analysis
- Compliance to company Product Development Process
- Make recommendations to management on new technologies
- Working with suppliers on component manufacturing
- Establishing and optimizing final assembly processes
Required Skills You Will Have as the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- BS or greater in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of Mechanical Design experience
- Electro-mechanical product development experience
- Ability to balance multiple projects
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD design using SOLIDWORKS
- Experience designing and documenting parts for manufacturing
Preferred Skills:
- Multi-disciplinary design, optimization, and integration including electronics and RF
- Understanding of product lifecycle, commercialization, and manufacturing
- Military/Defense/Aerospace experience
