Job duties:
• Assist the Safety Manager in planning, implementing, and maintaining the various safety and environmental programs necessary to the functions of Girtz Industries.
• Teach new hire orientation courses that include various topics relevant to Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management Systems.
• Provide ongoing safety, environmental, and quality training opportunities for all employees.
• Write or assist in writing Procedures, Work Instructions, and Forms; including those not directly related to Safety or Environmental practices.
• Research and recommend changes to the Safety and Environmental Management Systems; including policy changes and documentation updates.
• Research and recommend hazard elimination or substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.
• Answer inquiries, based on available research and data, for other employees, contractors, management, auditors, regulators, and the general public on all matters related to safety and environmental protection.
• Assist in management of certain inventories, including but not limited to; personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, absorbents, hazardous wastes, non-hazardous wastes, and universal wastes.
• Make routine patrols of the entire property, observing for and taking action on safety, security, and environmental concerns.
• Respond to emergency situations and takes appropriate action to mitigate negative consequences. This may include responses to fires, medical emergencies, security threats, hazardous substance spills, and others.
• May be required to act as an Incident Commander, in the absence of certain members of management.
• May be required to respond to after-hours burglary or fire alarm activations.
• May be required to perform other duties, as assigned.
