Job Full Description
Express has partnered with a local company in Des Moines, IA to actively recruit an Engineering Tech to join their team.
Inspect structures using engineering skills to determine structural soundness and compliance with specifications, building codes, and other regulations. Inspections may be general in nature or may be limited to a specific area, such as soils, concrete, or steel.
Responsibilities:
-Ability to maneuver a loaded (approximately 100 lbs) wheel barrow over variable terrain from the
sample location to the testing location is required. Testing can require frequent kneeling,
crouching, or bending at the waist.
-Test and analyze samples to determine their content and characteristics, using laboratory
apparatus or testing equipment.
-Collect or prepare solid or fluid samples for analysis.
-Compile, log, or record testing or operational data for review and further analysis.
-Assemble, operate, or maintain field or laboratory testing, measuring, or mechanical equipment.
-Participate in geological, geophysical surveys, exploratory drilling, borehole logging
-Prepare or review professional, technical, or other reports regarding sampling, testing, or
recommendations of data analysis.
-Plot information from aerial photographs, well logs, section descriptions, or other databases.
-Prepare notes, sketches, geological maps, or cross sections.
-Inspect bridges, dams, highways, buildings, plumbing, sewers, or foundations during and after
construction for structural quality or conformance to specifications and codes.
-Monitor installation of structural components to ensure that installation is performed properly and
is following applicable regulations.
-Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, or elevation of structures or fixtures to ensure
compliance to building plans and codes.
-Maintain daily logs and supplement inspection records with photographs.
-Review and interpret plans, blueprints, site layouts, specifications, or construction methods.
-Conduct inspections, using survey instruments, metering devices, tape measures, or test
equipment.
-Inspect and monitor construction sites to ensure adherence to building codes, or specifications.
-Confer with owners, violators, or authorities to explain regulations or recommend remedial
actions.
-Train, direct, or supervise other construction inspectors.
