Seasonal Grain Elevator Operator
Locations: Colwich, Kansas & Stafford, Kansas
Job Type: Seasonal, Full-Time
Overview: We are currently seeking Seasonal Grain Elevator Operators for our Colwich and Stafford locations. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide exceptional customer service while assisting with the receiving, storing, and shipping of grain. This position also involves cleaning trucks, performing maintenance on the elevator equipment, and ensuring facility cleanliness and safety standards are met. The schedule for this position varies and includes evenings and weekends, especially during harvest season.
Responsibilities:
- Greet customers in a positive and courteous manner and provide excellent customer service
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries, questions, and complaints
- Assist in solving problems for customers in a timely manner
- Unload and load trucks as needed
- Inspect grain for insects, moisture, and foreign material while unloading grain trucks
- Read thermometers to ascertain grain temperatures at various levels in storage tanks
- Start conveyors, select flow pipes, set trippers, and select storage tanks to convey grain into storage or to loading department
- Perform routine maintenance and repair on all elevator equipment
- Fill anhydrous ammonia tanks as needed
- Continually maintain facility cleanliness to ensure safety and required standards are met
- Work a variable schedule during harvest, including days of the week, shifts, and hours per week (including overtime as needed)
- Complete all paperwork accurately, timely, and in accordance with requirements
- Effectively communicate by verbal and written means with customers, employees, and management
- Maintain and promote safety awareness and follow safety policies, procedures, and reporting requirements
- Comply with all state and federal laws, codes, and regulations
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a similar role preferred
- Willingness to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes, or other job-related education opportunities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Basic math skills for calculating figures and amounts
- Proficient computer operation skills
- Commercial Pesticide Certification 7B preferred
- Forklift Certification preferred
- Commercial Applicator’s License preferred
- NH3 Handling Certification preferred
- Ability to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards
- Physically able to lift and move up to 100 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and work in confined spaces
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions and environments
Work Environment:
- Work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme cold and heat, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration
- May be required to work in confined spaces and at heights
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud
