Job Full Description

Looking for a Senior Manufacturing Technician, in Fitchburg, MA. Responsible for the production of advanced small components and assemblies. In this hands-on role, you’ll employ precision, and expertise to ensure exceptional quality and efficiency. You’ll work with a range of machinery, tools, and equipment to manufacture, and inspect components and assemblies.

 

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain manufacturing equipment, including CNC machines and specialized optical manufacturing tools.
  • Develop and implement methods for shaping, grinding, blocking, and polishing glass and other optical materials, producing spheres, flats, prisms, and free-form components to exacting standards.
  • Ensure fabrication meets specifications, including 1/10 wave precision and scratch-dig requirements of less than 10-5.
  • Utilize optical measurement tools, such as the Zygo interferometer, to verify precision.
  • Conduct routine maintenance to ensure equipment efficiency and reliability, resolving minor mechanical issues as they arise.
  • Complete and maintain accurate production logs, inspection records, and other required documentation.

Requirements 

  • High school diploma or GED required; a Technical or College degree in Manufacturing Technology or related field is preferred.
  • 5-10 years in a manufacturing or assembly environment, with an optics background preferred.
  • Proficiency with manufacturing tools, equipment, CNC machines, and quality control equipment; capable of reading blueprints and specifications.
  • Good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and ability to perform repetitive tasks while seated or standing for 8 hours. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work independently and in a team environment, willing to train/mentor less experienced staff, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and excellent communication abilities.
