Job Full Description

Job Title: Scale Operator

Job Summary: The Scale Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining scale equipment to weigh various materials, goods, or vehicles accurately. They ensure the scale is calibrated and functioning properly, record the weight data, and provide necessary reports to relevant departments or clients. The role requires attention to detail and a solid understanding of weight measurement systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operate Scale Equipment:

    • Safely operate and monitor digital and mechanical scales to weigh trucks, products, or raw materials.
    • Ensure the accuracy of scale readings by performing regular calibration checks.
  2. Record Weight Data:

    • Accurately input weight data into systems or manual logs.
    • Maintain detailed records of transactions, weights, and any discrepancies.
  3. Inspect and Maintain Scales:

    • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the scale equipment.
    • Report malfunctions or calibration issues to maintenance personnel or supervisors.
  4. Compliance with Safety and Regulatory Standards:

    • Ensure all weights and measurements comply with regulatory standards and company policies.
    • Assist in audits and inspections as required.
  5. Customer and Client Interaction:

    • Assist drivers or customers with weighing goods and ensuring that weight tickets are issued correctly.
    • Answer questions and resolve issues related to weight discrepancies.
  6. Coordinate with Other Departments:

    • Collaborate with logistics, inventory, and shipping departments to ensure proper handling of goods based on weight data.
    • Provide accurate data to management for inventory control and production planning.
  7. Report Generation:

    • Prepare weight reports for daily, weekly, and monthly summaries.
    • Ensure timely submission of reports to management or clients.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require post-secondary education or certifications related to scale operations or logistics).
  • Experience: Previous experience operating scales or working in logistics, manufacturing, or a similar field is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Basic math and data entry skills.
    • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
    • Proficient in using computer systems and software for data recording.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to [X] pounds (specific to industry).
