Job Full Description
Heavy Equipment Mechanic needed in Detroit, MI.
Day and night shift positions available. Pay BOE, up to $115,000 annually. Must be comfortable working overtime, 12-hour shifts.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Analyze malfunctions and conduct repairs, rebuilds, and maintenance on a variety of power equipment including cranes, wheel loaders, haul trucks, conveyors, bulldozers, and more.
- Operate and inspect machinery to diagnose defects, dismantle and reassemble equipment as necessary, and examine parts for damage or wear.
- Weld broken parts and structural members when required.
- Conduct fluid level checks, service lube points, and perform routine preventative maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area through daily routine housekeeping.
- Complete assigned paperwork accurately and submit work logs at the end of each shift.
- Ensure adherence to safety policies, procedures, and regulations, and remain vigilant to hazards and changing conditions on mine property.
- Cross-train and multitask with various skill sets and functions as needed.
- Perform incidental tasks required to complete larger tasks efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and management regarding task completion and safety concerns.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems promptly and with craftsmanship.
- Utilize technical drawings and testing equipment to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Source replacement parts, install them, and make repairs as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Preferred 1-year experience in CAT SIS Program.
- 2-4 years of experience in an industrial shop or mining environment required.
- 2-4 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic required.
- Dependable and reliable with a commitment to safety.
- Familiarity with a variety of equipment types and systems.
- Ability to operate vehicles and equipment for testing and troubleshooting.
- Capability to repair equipment to OEM standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer programs.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Fluent in spoken, written, and comprehended English.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to work safely in varying temperatures indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50+ pounds regularly.
- Compliance with all PPE requirements.
