Controls Department Manager Job Summary:
A local manufacturing company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controls Department Manager to join their team. This position requires a strong background in electrical and controls systems, as well as leadership experience in managing personnel and coordinating the execution of control installations. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in industrial installations or construction management, with an emphasis on electrical and controls. As the Controls Department Manager, you will lead a team of controls technicians and engineers, ensuring the successful planning and execution of projects. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with other departments, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and maintain a high standard of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Controls Department Manager Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the skills of controls technicians and engineers in a collaborative manner.
- Establish and maintain standards for all controls engineering work.
- Collaborate with other department managers to ensure efficient workflow across departments.
- Work closely with the Mechanical Installation Manager to coordinate and optimize installations, including resource allocation, schedule development, and adherence to project requirements.
- Partner with the Mechanical Engineering Manager to ensure integration of mechanical and electrical scopes in equipment designs.
- Communicate and enforce safety standards for on-site installations, ensuring personnel have up-to-date safety training.
- Evaluate project requirements and allocate sufficient controls resources to meet company and customer standards related to safety, quality, and schedule.
- Develop and track project budgets with Project Managers (PMs) that maximize profitability, utilizing EPICOR for cost tracking and monitoring progress.
- Assist PMs with defining installation scope and schedule per customer requirements.
- Coordinate with PMs to ensure installation crews have the necessary documentation and equipment (e.g., panels, drawings, hardware, software, electrical devices).
- Maintain an up-to-date status of controls work for all active projects.
- Develop and maintain a resource schedule for controls technicians and PMs, based on project requests and timelines.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for installations to increase profitability.
- Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of team members to ensure alignment with technical and company principles.
- Conduct annual performance reviews, provide feedback, and adhere to compensation guidelines.
- Develop and implement training plans for installers/technicians, maintaining an up-to-date status of training completion.
- Ensure departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met according to specific requirements.
- Manage the department with an emphasis on open communication, values, and leadership by example.
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule & Pay:
- Full-time position, Direct Hire.

Controls Department Manager Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in industrial installations or construction management with a focus on electrical and controls.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite, MS Project, AutoCAD, PLC programming, controls hardware, and software.
- 5+ years of previous management experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with team members across departments.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to manage resources, budgets, and project schedules effectively.
