Automation Technician

Location: Whitmore Lake, MI
Shift: 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday-Friday, Weekends as Needed)
Pay Rate: $23-$28/hour

We are seeking a motivated Automation Technician to join our team full-time. This role involves a structured training process, transitioning through various phases to build, debug, and install automation equipment while gaining hands-on experience in every step of the process.

Training Process

Our comprehensive training program is designed to develop your skills and prepare you for a long-term career. The process includes:

  1. Electrical Panel Build (3-6 months)
    • Assemble and wire electrical panels according to schematics and engineering designs.
    • Test and verify panels to ensure they meet quality standards.
  2. Electrical Build on the Assembly Floor (3-6 months)
    • Integrate electrical panels into machines on the shop floor.
    • Collaborate with mechanical and engineering teams to ensure proper functionality.
  3. Equipment Build and Debugging (3-6 months)
    • Assist in the final assembly of automation equipment.
    • Troubleshoot and debug systems to ensure machines operate effectively.
  4. Field Installation (2 weeks – 2 months per project)
    • Travel to customer facilities to install, set up, and commission equipment.
    • Provide on-site technical support and resolve issues during installation.

The timeline for training may vary based on your skills and progress. Those with exceptional drive and rapid improvement may complete the program in less time.

Post-Training Responsibilities

After completing the training process, you will transition to a role that includes approximately 60-80% travel for field repairs, installations, and customer support. This will involve:

  • Troubleshooting and repairing automation systems at customer sites.
  • Performing preventative maintenance and system upgrades.
  • Collaborating with engineering teams to enhance equipment performance.
  • Providing customer training and support for installed systems.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience or education in electrical systems, panel building, or automation is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, and automation components is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel extensively after training.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in industrial and manufacturing environments.
