Job Full Description
The Refrigeration Technician with HVAC and EPA 608 certifications is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. This role ensures that all refrigeration and HVAC equipment operates efficiently and in compliance with safety and environmental standards, including EPA 608 guidelines.
1st Shift - Mon-Fri 7am-5pm, and some Sat's required
Key Responsibilities:

Refrigeration System Maintenance & Repairs:
- Diagnose and repair refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, freezers, ice machines, and other refrigeration units.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, and expansion valves.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks, including inspecting refrigeration lines, checking refrigerant levels, and cleaning coils.

HVAC System Maintenance:
- Service and repair HVAC systems, including air conditioners, heaters, and ventilation systems, ensuring they function efficiently and meet regulatory standards.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot air handlers, compressors, condensers, and other HVAC equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing filters, calibrating thermostats, and cleaning ducts to optimize HVAC system performance.

EPA 608 Refrigeration Compliance:
- Handle refrigerants in compliance with EPA 608 regulations, including the proper recovery, recycling, and disposal of refrigerants.
- Ensure all refrigeration repairs and maintenance meet environmental safety standards to minimize refrigerant emissions and leaks.
- Maintain detailed records of refrigerant usage, servicing activities, and compliance documentation as required by EPA standards.

System Installations:
- Install new refrigeration and HVAC systems, including piping, wiring, and equipment placement, according to manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Work with general contractors, electricians, and other technicians to ensure proper installation and startup of new systems.

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
- Utilize diagnostic tools, gauges, and software to identify and resolve system inefficiencies or malfunctions in both refrigeration and HVAC systems.
- Perform system pressure tests, leak tests, and electrical troubleshooting to pinpoint system failures and determine necessary repairs.

Customer Service & Documentation:
- Communicate with clients and management regarding the status of repairs, maintenance schedules, and system performance.
- Provide excellent customer service, offering recommendations on system upgrades or energy-efficient solutions when necessary.
- Maintain accurate service records, including parts used, time spent on repairs, and refrigerant handling details.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in HVAC or refrigeration preferred.
- EPA 608 Refrigeration Certification required.
- HVAC Certification from a recognized institution or program required.
- 3+ years of experience in refrigeration and HVAC maintenance, installation, and repair.
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, mechanical systems, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, gauges, and other equipment for HVAC and refrigeration troubleshooting.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various environments, including confined spaces, heights, and outdoors in different weather conditions.
- Willingness to work on a rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to work in environments that may involve exposure to refrigerants, chemicals, and high noise levels.
