Business Developer Job Description

About the Position

Our Business Developer position is all about YOU – you create your sales plans, you create your schedule, and you create your monthly commissions. You’ll have the opportunity to get to know and support a variety of local businesses in the surrounding areas – from prominent manufacturers to local businesses in your own neighborhood! Networking and connecting with community members is an essential part of this role, and that goes beyond cold calls and client visits. As a Business Developer, you’ll represent the office at professional events as the “face” of the office. It is our goal to continue to grow and develop our staff to be as successful in their role as possible, and you’ll see that from day one through a range of trainings and support from Headquarters, Ownership, and the internal team.

  • Monday-Friday
  • 8:00am-5:00pm
  • 1-hour lunch

A Closer Look at the Business Developer Role

  • Create quarterly sales and action plans for prospect accounts
  • Set daily sales plans centered around client visits
  • Build relationships with clients, identifying and developing selling opportunities for Express’ full range of service capabilities
  • Connect with clients over the phone, as well as over email
  • Employ consultative selling techniques
  • Work closely with the internal team regarding new client handoffs and account-specific marketing growth plans
  • Maintain current account information records in Express software
  • Attend community events (i.e., chamber events, SHRM events, non-profit boards, etc.), representing the team as the “face” of the office

Background Profile

  • At least 2 years of previous sales experience
  • A self-starter mentality
  • Knowledge of consultative selling techniques to reach clients through virtual and in-person interactions
  • The ability to speak before groups, in addition to one-on-one networking
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills that allow you to connect with business professionals at all levels
  • Basic computer skills to compose routine correspondence and reports
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws (preferred)
  • High school diploma/GED

Compensation

  • $45,000-$90,000/year
  • Includes salary, bonuses, and commission
  • Dependent on performance and experience
