Job Title: Plating Engineer (Full Time)

Location: Saint Paul, MN

Shift Schedule: Mondays – Fridays; scheduled Saturdays (Team Manager On-Duty)

Compensation: $80,000-$100,000 (depending on experience)

Direct Superior: Plant Manager

 

Our client is seeking an experienced, talented and dedicated Plating Engineer to join their  growing team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects and contribute to the development of high-quality plated components for various industries.

 

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented and results-driven Plating Engineer to oversee and improve the plating processes in our production facility. The ideal candidate will have experience with electroplating, chemical processes, and surface treatment technologies, as well as a passion for ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency in our operations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and optimize electroplating and surface treatment processes for various metals (e.g., steel, aluminum, etc.).
  • Work closely with sales, quality, and production teams to ensure the plating processes meet customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot plating defects, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor and control plating bath chemistry, temperature, and operational parameters to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits of plating processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Lead process improvements and cost-reduction initiatives to enhance the performance and efficiency of plating operations.
  • Provide technical support and training to production staff regarding plating processes and equipment.
  • Document and maintain detailed records of plating procedures, process changes, and quality control data.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in electroplating and surface finishing.
  • Communicate/negotiate with customer for parts manufacturability correspondences and challenges
  • Serve as process trainer if the need arises to train new members
  • Ethically collaborate and promote positive culture among the members and the company stakeholders

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Plating Engineer, Process Engineer, or in a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working and completing projects that drove plating process improvements, process efficiency enhancement, cost reduction initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of plating techniques, surface treatment processes, and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with plating equipment, including electroplating baths, tanks, and controllers.
  • Experience with plating materials such as gold, silver, nickel, copper, and zinc is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot plating issues effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations regarding plating processes, safety, and environmental concerns.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with process optimization, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives is a plus.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of advanced plating techniques like electroless plating, PVD, or CVD.
  • Familiarity with quality control tools and data analysis techniques.
  • Experience with CAD software or other engineering design tools.
  • Knowledge / Experience with OSHA, ISO/IEC 17025
  • Knowledge / Experience with Chemical Laboratory Management
  • Knowledge / Experience with basic plating facility maintenance
  • Knowledge / Experience with Lean Six Sigma Methodologies (Six Sigma certification is a big plus)
  • Data-driven decision-making
