Position: Helper Pay: $16.40-17.50

Job Duties:

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the take up and printers, including inspecting reels and spools for damage, loading/unloading reels or spools on a continual basis, maintaining all printers, reading and interpreting BOM on production orders, verifying print, providing accurate O.D. checks, providing inspection of jacketed or insulated product, obtaining raw materials, including correct reels or spools, and supplies, and assisting the operator with changeover tasks.
Responsible for maintaining general housekeeping, using shop floor correctly, accumulating hazardous waste properly and complying with legislative regulations and ISO standards.
Responsible for having knowledge of upcoming jobs and extrusion tooling used.

Safety:

Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) specific to the task at hand but at a minimum safety glasses, safety shoes and hearing protection.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Perform safety jabs, as directed.
Conduct required inspections, including but not limited to the inspection of PITs, hoists, tools, electrical equipment, and ladders. Report injuries and near misses immediately.

Quality:

Ensure that known defects are not past on to the next operation. Follow established quality road maps and company quality guidelines. Report quality issues.
Waste: Seek to reduce all forms of waste, including scrap generated by your machine or process.
Control materials usage by following the PO and conserving supplies.
Support Growing Green/recycling efforts.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

Must be able to read, count accurately, do simple math (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and write legibly.
Must be able to use common hand tools. Must have the ability to follow directions safely.
Must be able to interpret a PO and identify preferred take up reels.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the take-up operation and be able to use the equipment to produce spools with consistent smooth lay and traverse. Must be knowledgeable of the relationship between take-up gear ratio and wire size.
Must visually inspect finished product for correct print and quality appearance. Similarly, the helper must thoroughly check each finished package and skid. Must be able to accurately use quality measurement tools.
Must be able to handle stress caused by meeting deadlines with tight scheduling requirements, while maintaining an emphasis on safety.
Must be able to pre-plan jobs and shift priorities easily. Must have responsible work habits.

Working Conditions

Must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods.
Must be able to twist, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level and crouch on a frequent basis.
Must be able to use proper techniques to lift 50-75 pounds.
Must be able to use hands and feet simultaneously to perform repetitive movements.
Must be able to work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate-control. Extruders give off a substantial amount of radiant heat. The hopper vacuums, motors, air-wipes and other machinery can be quite noisy.
