Location: Freehold, NJ

Shift: Monday to Friday, 4:00 PM – 12:30 AM
Job Type: Full-Time | Onsite | Non-Exempt

Pay Rate: $37 - $42 / hour (plus overtime)

The Supervisor / Lead Machinist is critical to our success— building and leading a second shift to produce components to exact tolerances that support the functionality, safety, and durability of our systems.


Position Summary

The Supervisor /  Lead Machinist is responsible for managing 2nd shift operations within the machining department. This role requires hands-on CNC machining expertise combined with team leadership. The Lead Machinist will oversee the production of a wide variety of precision components including base plates, cam followers, load plates, studs, wheels, and assemblies—ensuring all are manufactured to exact specifications and production targets are met.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead 2nd shift personnel across CNC mills, lathes, and manual machines. Includes task delegation, training, and performance support.
  • Coordinate machining operations to maintain production flow and throughput in the absence of first-shift leadership.
  • Interpret technical drawings and work orders, input programs, set up tooling, and verify machine parameters for each job.
  • Troubleshoot machine issues, optimize cutting conditions, and ensure first-pass yield rates.
  • Conduct in-process inspections using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.) and verify adherence to engineering specs.
  • Perform machine setups and tool changes and verify program accuracy prior to production runs.
  • Record labor hours and job data via shop floor software; ensure all entries are accurate and submitted in real time.
  • Identify discrepancies or defective materials and report findings to 1st shift Production Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety protocols and quality standards during all phases of machining and shift operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned equipment and work areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience operating CNC mills and lathes in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in machine programming, setups, and part inspection.
  • Previous experience in a team lead or supervisory role within a machine shop or production setting.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Capable of independent decision-making, troubleshooting, and workflow management under limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation, quality control procedures, and continuous improvement principles.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Standing for extended periods; occasional walking, bending, and kneeling.
  • Ability to lift and move parts and equipment up to and exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise, metalworking fluids, and airborne particles.
  • Use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection) is mandatory.
