Job Title: Lumper
Job Summary: The Lumper is responsible for unloading, loading, and sorting shipments in a warehouse, distribution center, or similar environment. The role requires heavy lifting, physical endurance, and organizational skills. This position involves working closely with the team to ensure products are moved efficiently and stored correctly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Unload goods from trucks or shipping containers.
- Sort and organize items based on their size, weight, and storage requirements.
- Lift and move materials manually or with equipment such as pallet jacks or forklifts.
- Stack goods in an orderly fashion to maximize storage space.
- Ensure that all items are properly labeled and recorded for inventory purposes.
- Assist in loading items onto trucks or into containers for shipment.
- Perform routine safety checks and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Follow all company policies and safety protocols.
- May assist with other warehouse tasks as needed (e.g., order picking, packing).
Skills and Qualifications:
- Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy items (up to 50 pounds or more).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic knowledge of warehouse operations.
- Team-oriented with good communication skills.
- Attention to detail for proper sorting and labeling of goods.
- Forklift certification may be required for certain jobs.
Working Conditions:
- Physically demanding, involving standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
- May be required to work in varying temperatures, depending on the type of warehouse.
- Shifts may vary, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
