Job Title: Tow Truck Operator
Location: Horseheads, NY
Schedule: Full-time, On-call (5-6 days per week, 8-12 hour days)
Compensation: $15/hr (Overtime available, estimated annual pay around $60k)
We are partnering with a well-established tow truck company in Horseheads, NY, seeking a Tow Truck Operator to join their team. This position requires a tow truck endorsement and at least 2 years of towing experience. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety-focused, and ready to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a tow truck to respond to emergency and scheduled towing calls
- Transport vehicles to designated locations, including dealerships, repair shops, or storage lots
- Assist with vehicle recovery and roadside assistance as needed, including flat tire changes, jump starts, and lockouts
- Securely load and unload vehicles to minimize damage and ensure proper handling
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with vehicle owners, clients, and dispatch
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tow truck to ensure it is in safe working condition
- Complete required documentation for each tow, including pick-up/drop-off locations and special instructions
- Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required, and be on-call for emergency towing requests
- Maintain a clean, organized vehicle and follow all safety regulations and traffic laws
Qualifications:
- Tow truck endorsement required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating tow trucks or in a similar role
- Clean driving record with the ability to pass background and drug screenings
- Ability to handle vehicles with care, ensuring minimal risk of damage
- Strong customer service skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Availability to work 5-6 days a week, including being on-call and working 8-12 hour shifts
- Ability to work independently and follow company procedures and safety guidelines
- Mechanically inclined with a basic understanding of vehicle towing and recovery equipment
Compensation:
- Starting pay rate of $15/hr, with overtime available
- Estimated annual earnings around $60k, based on overtime hours worked
