Certified Licensed Peer Support Specialist - $20-$24 an hour BOE
Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 5 pm (rotating weekends possible) Columbus, OH
Job Description: We are looking for a Certified Licensed Peer Support Specialist to provide peer support services to individuals with mental health, substance use, and/or co-occurring disorders. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will use your lived experience and training to offer empathy, understanding, and guidance to individuals on their recovery paths. You will work collaboratively with clients, their families, and other members of the support team to promote recovery and well-being.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and group peer support services to clients based on their individual needs.
- Offer guidance and encouragement using your lived experience with recovery.
- Assist clients in identifying and achieving their personal recovery goals.
- Facilitate coping skills development, self-advocacy, and independence.
- Act as a mentor and role model to help clients build self-esteem and confidence.
- Support clients in navigating community resources, including housing, healthcare, employment, and social services.
- Encourage positive behavior change and the use of self-care practices.
- Participate in care planning and collaboration with other treatment providers, including social workers, therapists, and healthcare professionals.
- Document and maintain accurate records of services provided in compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in team meetings and case consultations to support client success.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions with clients.
Qualifications:
- Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPS) license or equivalent certification from an accredited program.
- Lived experience with mental health challenges, substance use recovery, or both, and a passion for helping others through their own recovery journey.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while building trusting relationships with clients.
- Knowledge of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction strategies.
- Experience in group facilitation and individual peer support services preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Understanding of community resources and support services available to individuals in recovery.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications or training related to mental health and substance use recovery is a plus.
