Job Description: Diesel Mechanic for Over-the-Road Tractors
$30 - $35 per hour based on experience
Position Overview: Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Diesel Mechanic to join their team and maintain their fleet of over-the-road tractors. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will ensure vehicles operate safely and efficiently. This role demands a strong commitment to quality, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and expertise in diesel engine systems and related components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic assessments, maintenance, and repairs on diesel-powered tractors and trailers.
- Inspect engine systems, transmissions, brakes, fuel systems, and electrical components.
- Conduct routine servicing and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and repairs completed.
- Collaborate with drivers and management to address vehicle concerns promptly.
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in diesel technology and repair techniques.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably with over-the-road tractors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of diesel engine systems, hydraulics, and electronic diagnostics.
- Skilled in using diagnostic software and tools.
- Ability to interpret schematics and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and teamwork-oriented mindset.
- Valid certifications in diesel mechanics or related field (ASE certification preferred).
- Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to dynamic schedules.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and maneuver heavy components and tools.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoors and in shop settings.
- Standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
