Job Full Description
Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery, including front-end loaders, skid-steers, and backhoes, to perform various construction, excavation, material handling, and site preparation tasks. The operator must ensure safe, efficient, and precise equipment operation to support construction projects and maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate front-end loaders, skid-steers, and backhoes safely and efficiently on various job sites.
- Perform routine equipment inspections to ensure all machinery is in good working condition.
- Transport materials such as dirt, gravel, and sand using the equipment.
- Dig trenches, foundations, and other excavations using backhoe and skid-steer machinery.
- Load and unload construction materials onto trucks using the front-end loader.
- Maintain and ensure cleanliness of equipment and work areas.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and damage.
- Assist with site preparation and grading by moving earth and other materials as required.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to ensure project goals are met.
- Complete daily logs, equipment maintenance reports, and report any malfunctions or damage to equipment.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety regulations, and local, state, and federal laws.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, skid-steers, and backhoes.
- Valid operator’s license or certification for heavy equipment (as required by local laws).
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations in heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, maps, and site plans for construction or excavation projects.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor when necessary.
- Physical stamina and strength to work in outdoor conditions in various weather.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with a wide range of heavy equipment and attachments.
- Certification or training in heavy equipment operation (e.g., OSHA certification).
- Experience in the construction, landscaping, or mining industries.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- May require working extended hours or overtime during busy periods.
- Physical labor involved in material handling and equipment maintenance.
