Meat Cutter Needed!

Location: Bend, OR

Job Summary:

 

A meat cutter is responsible for preparing and portioning various cuts of meat in a safe and efficient manner. They work in meat processing facilities, butcher shops, or grocery stores, ensuring the quality and presentation of meat products for sale to customers.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Cutting and Trimming:

    • Accurately cut and trim meat, poultry, or seafood into various cuts and portions according to customer orders, industry standards, or company guidelines.
    • Remove bones, fat, and gristle to prepare meat for sale or further processing.
  2. Quality Control:

    • Inspect meat for freshness, quality, and proper color.
    • Ensure that all products meet health and safety standards.
    • Dispose of spoiled or expired products properly.
  3. Equipment Maintenance:

    • Maintain and clean cutting tools, knives, and machinery to ensure they are in good working condition.
    • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  4. Safety and Sanitation:

    • Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines, including the proper handling of meat products to prevent contamination.
    • Use protective gear such as gloves, aprons, and hairnets to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  5. Inventory Management:

    • Keep track of inventory levels and notify supervisors when meat supplies need replenishment.
    • Organize meat products in storage areas to maintain order and prevent spoilage.
  6. Customer Service:

    • Assist customers by providing information about cuts of meat, cooking recommendations, and special requests.
    • Provide friendly and helpful customer service to enhance the shopping experience.
  7. Adherence to Regulations:

    • Follow all local, state, and federal regulations related to food handling, labeling, and safety.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a meat cutter or butcher in a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of different cuts of meat, meat types, and their respective characteristics.
  • Familiarity with meat cutting equipment and tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in cutting and trimming meat.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift and carry heavy meat products.
  • Excellent hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
