Job Title: Custodian / Maintenance Worker I
Location: City of Redmond, Public Works Department
Purpose of Position: The Custodian / Maintenance Worker I is the first classification in the Parks Custodian and Maintenance Worker series. This position performs custodial duties to maintain all City buildings, including City Hall, the Public Works complex, the Police Department, the Wastewater Complex, and other City buildings as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform custodial duties such as cleaning floors and carpeting, washing windows and glass doors, sanitizing restrooms and breakrooms, picking up and removing trash and recyclables, cleaning furniture, dusting surfaces, and washing walls.
- Conduct minor maintenance tasks including interior and exterior paint touchups, replacing lightbulbs, and minor landscaping duties (weeding plant beds).
- Perform winter maintenance tasks such as removing snow from sidewalks and sanding walkways during icy conditions.
- Operate a City vehicle regularly to perform custodial and maintenance duties across various City buildings.
- Promote an effective, responsive, and value-based organizational culture.
Qualifications:

Mandatory Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least twelve (12) months of verifiable work experience in commercial custodian work.
- Knowledge of supplies, materials, and equipment used in commercial custodial work and commercial facilities maintenance.
- Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions, express ideas and convey information effectively, maintain confidentiality, and establish priorities.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license with a safe driving record (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to hear audible alarms and cell phone calls.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to outside weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
- Moderate noise level.
