Job Title: Planer Operator

Location: Eugene, Oregon

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Planer Operator to join our team. The Planer Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining the lumber planing machine to produce high-quality finished wood products. This role demands a keen eye for detail, a solid understanding of wood processing, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate automatic and manual planer machines to shape, smooth, and finish lumber to specified dimensions and tolerances.
  • Set up machinery according to specifications, including configuring blade settings and adjusting feed rates to ensure optimal performance.
  • Monitor the planing process to ensure consistent quality and make adjustments as necessary to achieve desired results.
  • Inspect material before and after processing for quality assurance, identifying any defects and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on planing equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn or damaged parts.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and other team members to ensure efficient production workflow and resolve any operational issues.
  • Keep accurate production records, including quantities processed, machine settings, and quality control measures taken.
  • Train and mentor new employees on machinery operation and safety protocols as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in woodworking or machinery operation is a plus.
  • Proven experience operating woodworking machinery, particularly planers, in a lumber mill or similar environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to handle minor repairs and adjustments on machinery.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, including blueprints and work orders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
