Job Title: Carded Millwright

Location: Eugene, Oregon

 

Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Carded Millwright to join a dynamic team at a leading lumber mill specializing in high-quality wood production. The ideal candidate will ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of machinery and mechanical systems within the mill, contributing to the overall productivity and safety of our operations. This position requires a strong understanding of mill machinery, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance and Repair:

    • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on milling equipment, including saws, planers, conveyors, and other woodworking machinery.
    • Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs on equipment as necessary to minimize downtime.
    • Overhaul and rebuild machinery components, ensuring all repairs meet safety and quality standards.
  2. Installation and Setup:

    • Assist with the installation of new machinery and equipment, following proper installation protocols and safety guidelines.
    • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to set up machinery in accordance with production requirements.
  3. Troubleshooting:

    • Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical failures, determining root causes and implementing effective solutions.
    • Perform daily inspections of equipment to identify maintenance needs and prevent potential issues.
  4. Safety Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations within the mill to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
    • Participate in safety training sessions and promote a culture of safety among team members.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
    • Report any significant issues or concerns to the maintenance supervisor promptly.
  6. Team Collaboration:

    • Work closely with other maintenance team members, production staff, and management to improve overall efficiency and productivity.
    • Provide training and guidance to less experienced team members as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Millwright or related apprenticeship program.
  • Valid Journeyman Millwright certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience working as a millwright, preferably in a lumber mill or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient in the use of hand and power tools used in mill maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with conveyor systems, hydraulic systems, and industrial electrical systems is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including potential overtime and weekend shifts.
