Job Summary
The Production Planner is responsible for planning and coordinating the production of specialized electro-optical products. This role requires strong communication skills to interface with various teams, including sales, engineering, and operations, to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of customer orders. The Production Planner will manage the production process, from material planning to final product delivery, while navigating the unique challenges of custom-built systems.
Key Responsibilities
Planning and Coordination:
- Develop and manage production plans for specialized products, ensuring accurate maintenance of bills of materials (BOM), routing details, and product configurations.
- Review and analyze open sales orders to verify customer requirements and align production schedules accordingly.
- Utilize ERP systems to create and manage manufacturing work orders with precision and accuracy.
- Ensure timely release of manufacturing work orders by confirming the availability of all required materials.
- Coordinate the timely delivery of parts to optimize material flow and support on-time production.
- Monitor and expedite manufacturing activities to ensure production schedules and deadlines are consistently met.
- Facilitate product transitions to new manufacturing processes or equipment to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Track and maintain product configurations during development and pilot builds to ensure a seamless transition to full-scale production.
- Generate and manage new part numbers, ensuring all associated documentation is accurately archived and maintained.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Act as a liaison between sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure a clear understanding of customer requirements, product specifications, and any updates to the production process.
- Partner with the engineering team to ensure accurate documentation and facilitate seamless transitions for new product introductions or modifications.
- Proactively inform the sales team of any potential impacts to customer delivery schedules.
- Provide management with regular updates and reports on production progress, key performance metrics, and any challenges affecting production timelines.
Inventory and Material Management:
- Monitor production schedules, inventory levels, and material availability to identify potential issues or bottlenecks and take proactive measures to mitigate delays.
- Coordinate with warehouse and purchasing teams to address material shortages and ensure timely availability of required components.
- Provide support to the purchasing team by expediting supplier orders as needed to meet production deadlines.
- Assist with processing purchase orders for outsourced services, including board assembly and secondary processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Manage engineering change control to ensure all updates are effectively communicated, documented, and implemented in production processes.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of experience in a Production Planning role.
- Experience in the discrete manufacturing industry is strongly preferred.
- Buying or procurement experience is a plus.
Education:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- APICS CPIM certification desired.
Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in using ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (including formulas and pivot tables).
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Customer-focused mindset, with the ability to interact effectively with both internal teams and external vendors and suppliers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong experience and knowledge of ERP or MRP software preferred.
- Willingness to learn, grow, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
