Job Title: Technical Assistant
Supervisor: Technical Director
Pay Range: $15.00 - $17.00/hour (depending on experience)
FTE: Part-Time (20-25 hours per week)

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Technical Assistant will support the Technical Director in planning, designing, and executing all technical requirements for events and performances. This includes assisting with any external events that require technical support. The ideal candidate will have experience in a theater environment and be proficient in operating various theater equipment such as follow spots, microphones, lighting consoles, rigging equipment, and hand/power tools. Well-qualified candidates should have experience with scene changes during performances, including setting up hand props, placing set pieces, and handling drops, curtains, or scenery. Basic skills in carpentry and scenery construction are preferred. The candidate must demonstrate good judgment, possess strong customer service skills, and work effectively with staff and the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to satisfactorily complete each essential duty and responsibility listed below. These duties may be updated periodically as deemed necessary by the organization, without prior notice to the employee. Responsibilities include:
- Unloading and loading event and performance equipment
- Assembling and striking sets
- Operating lighting instruments and audio systems
- Managing stage props, including fabrication and construction as required
- Assisting with the setup and teardown for rentals
- Assisting in set building
- Communicating with the Technical Director regarding needs for additional crew members, supplies, or conflicts for upcoming events and performances
- Maintaining required documentation (e.g., safety documents, user manuals, warranty documents, etc.)
- Performing physical maintenance of the technical systems in the performance space, including:
- Lighting equipment: inspection, repairs, inventory of expendables, dimmers, and DMX controllers
- Sound equipment: inspection, repairs, and cleaning
- Stage: inspection and janitorial maintenance
- Shop and off-stage areas: janitorial maintenance
- Production area: repairs and janitorial maintenance
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a commitment to continually advancing knowledge of theater technical aspects, including design concepts and safety regulations. Proficiency with manual/power tools, basic fraction math, the ability to lift up to fifty pounds, and the capability to follow directions from supervising staff are essential.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Candidates must be comfortable working in a potentially hazardous environment that may include heights, loud noises, crowds, darkness, and confined spaces.
