Job Full Description
Blade Shop - Composite:
Manufacture Composite Main Rotor Blades and associated parts and assemblies in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), & Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blue prints and technical drawings on detail parts, assembly and composite. Follow engineering and manufacturing specifications and orders to determine parts to be bonded and the temperature and pressure required.
- Verify work performed is per work instruction and meets process and/or engineering specification. Document work per company, customer and regulatory requirements.
- Understand and use documentation forms and paperwork in accordance with Company and FAA Standards.
- Perform manufacturing bonding operation, including preparation, assembly and testing. Lay out, wet-layup, assemble, pre-fit, and bond a variety of composite materials, such as carbon fiber, fiberglass and various pre-preg materials.
- Cut parts or materials to size.
- Operate various precision measuring tools (calipers, scales, etc.), hand tools, CNC ply cutter, hydraulic presses, over-head cranes.
- Load, unload and operate large infrared ovens in the curing of parts and assemblies to complete the bonding cycle.
- Sand, burr and smooth over areas. Apply sealing resins.
- Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- Obtain required information from prints, charts, sketches, work orders, documents, verbal and electronic information.
- Use shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments to complete work assignments.
- Ensure equipment and tool certification occurs per procedure.
- Use and control solvents and cleaning solutions in the preparation of details, tools, and assemblies for bonding and paint per established procedures.
- Perform housekeeping and other organizational requirements – such as routine minor machine maintenance as part of daily work duties (e.g., replacing machine filters, changing standard light bulbs on machines and equipment, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels, etc. as related to basic preventative maintenance duties).
- Routinely move product within the immediate manufacturing work area and walk-in freezer, using shop assigned equipment (e.g. over-head cranes), as required to move product to the next operation.
- Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training and assisting employees at all classification levels.
- Achieve and maintain task qualifications for all work performed.
- Perform administrative duties e.g. Time entry, DAX, Training classes, create, revise and use department documents, etc.) as required by company and department requirements.
- Other directly related duties as requested and required.
Qualifications
- Ability to understand and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, technical manuals and be able to translate these into written instructions.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of composite, fiberglass or bonding experience.
- Valid Driver’s license
- Requires a high level of communication both verbally and written to provide clear and concise work instructions and communicate verbally with managers, cell leaders and peers.
- Demonstrate technical expertise in fabricating assemblies, reworks and repairs, of composite parts, by applying knowledge of working characteristics of nonmetallic materials and bonding techniques.
- Willing and able to work long hours and travel as required to meet company requirements. Work 40 or more hours per week as directed (overtime, weekends, etc.) Travel domestically and internationally as directed.
- Drive company vehicles or rental vehicles as directed.
- Work with hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals and products to perform required tasks.
Position is fulltime working 40-60 hours/week.
