SUMMARY: Assigns motor vehicles and drivers for conveyance of freight by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – included by not limited to the following:

  • Works in conjunction with general manager, yard supervisors, warehouse supervisors to coordinate fleet activities
  • Supervises transport drivers and performs all aspects of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Establish and implement daily fleet schedule for inbound and outbound fleet.
  • Assigns vehicles according to factors such as length and purpose of trip, freight requirements, and preference of customer.
  • Records time of departure, destination, cargo, and expected time of return.
  • Investigates overdue vehicles.
  • Directs activities of drivers using GPS System and mobile phones.
  • Requests or schedules repairs and proper maintenance for vehicles.
  • Confers with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged freight.
  • Maintains record of mileage, fuel used repairs made, and other expenses.
  • Establishes service or delivery routes.
  • Issues equipment to drivers as needed.
  • Assigns helpers to drivers.
  • Maintain high productivity levels within the confines of safe management in the most efficient way possible.
  • Directs, maintains, and addresses safety issues with general manager, yard supervisor, and owner. This includes fleet, ferrous and non-ferrous operations, including employee safety, customer safety, equipment safety, and transport safety.
  • In respect to transport division is responsible to maintain and enforce all federal, local, and other required records and laws.
  • In respect to yard, works with yard supervisor to ensure all safety issues are addressed.
  • Conducts monthly safety meetings.
  • Maintains and enforces company drug testing policy for all employees.
  • Other duties/responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and tax filings

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of Scalehouse and Transport Division. Also directly supervises 1-10 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
