The Earthwork Superintendent is responsible for managing on-site earth-moving activities, ensuring the project is constructed in accordance with contractual obligations, remains within budget, stays on schedule, and meets the quality standards outlined in contract documents. This role requires strict adherence to company safety guidelines and project-specific safety plans. Daily responsibilities include scheduling and coordinating work activities, subcontractor tasks, and material deliveries while maintaining compliance with the project schedule. The superintendent monitors productivity rates for self-performed work, ensuring conformance to estimated benchmarks, and oversees project profitability. They also inquire about mobilization and lead times for subcontractors and materials, assess job progress and risks, and assist the Project Manager in creating and updating project schedules.
Additional duties include reviewing and approving employee time cards, supervising site safety, and maintaining compliance with company policies and safety plans. The superintendent ensures all self-performed and subcontracted work meets quality standards, documents as-built conditions, and manages the remediation of non-conforming work. They also oversee contract compliance, communicate with key stakeholders, interpret contract documents, and delegate responsibilities to field staff. Investigating site conditions, fostering a positive work environment, and maintaining documentation, such as daily logs and reports, are critical aspects of the role. The superintendent is also responsible for purchasing materials, coordinating project site setup, and performing additional duties as requested by the General Superintendent.
