JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Electrical / Controls Engineer
Department: Maintenance
Reports to: Area Manager
Location: St. Stephen
Salary: Approximately $90,000
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM (must be open to some flexibility)
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Electrical Engineer will be part of the Maintenance team, providing support to the Maintenance Manager. Responsibilities include coordinating resources, overseeing maintenance, and assisting with the design, installation, and enhancement of electrical and automated systems within the facility. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, are required.
The role also involves contributing to the professional development of in-house electricians by conducting training sessions, organizing external training resources, and helping with documentation.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to all established safety protocols and job-specific safety guidelines.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Participate in safety-related meetings, training sessions, and audits.
- Report any observed safety issues, and take corrective action when possible.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Possess strong hands-on skills and familiarity with modern PLC systems such as Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron, Modicon, and Servo Motors/Motion Control.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with custom electrical control systems.
- Oversee the work of technicians or co-op students, if needed.
- Prepare technical reports and develop innovative ideas for improving electrical control systems.
- Deliver presentations, both written and oral, on relevant technical topics.
- Calibrate equipment as needed.
- Provide training to other staff members.
- Design electrical control panels and systems (UL508) independently is preferred.
- Manage the design and fabrication of power and control systems for manufacturing equipment.
- Maintain thorough documentation of electrical designs, algorithms, and programs for future reference.
- Collect and analyze data to offer practical solutions to operational challenges.
- Exercise sound judgment in evaluating progress and recommending technical alternatives when necessary.
- Lead, plan, and coordinate smaller projects from start to finish.
QUALIFICATIONS
Skills:
- Expertise in motion control within a factory setting.
- Proficient in PLC programming and HMI (Citect preferred).
- Strong competency in AutoCAD Electrical.
- Ability to manage both internal and external resources, including electrical contractors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively across different levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant technical experience.
Education:
- High School Diploma
- College Diploma
- Bachelor's Degree
- Master's Degree
