Job Title: Crane Operator
Location: West Columbia, SC
Schedule: Monday-Friday: Day Shift: 7:00am-6:00pm
Pay Rate: $18.00
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Crane Operator to join our team at our West Columbia, SC. This is an individual contributor role where you will be responsible for operating ground-controlled traveling and overhead cranes to lift, move, and position heavy steel loads safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate hoisting attachments such as hooks, chains, or buckets to load materials.
Perform routine cleaning and non-complex maintenance of the crane and hoisting mechanisms, including regular inspections of the crane, hooks, and chains to maintain safe operations.
Monitor process tanks and zinc bath temperatures to ensure quality galvanizing and adhere to cycle times.
Coordinate the use of equipment, process tanks, material, and personnel to maximize productivity in the galvanizing process.
Guide material handlers in proper procedures to ensure safe and efficient galvanizing.
Perform the drossing process to remove impurities from the zinc kettle.
Set kettle temperatures and remove lost parts from process tanks and kettles.
Required Qualifications:
Physical ability to hook and unhook loads, and place dunnage between pipes for staging.
Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift.
Mental and visual capacity to assess the safety of load hookups and inspect for defects.
Proficient in operating crane controls (pedals, levers, and buttons) to control crane speed and direction.
Basic knowledge of using email and communication tools.
Ability to recognize hazardous substances and adhere to chemical safety protocols.
Experience operating 15-ton overhead bridge cranes.
High attention to detail and safety awareness at all times.
Excellent hand-eye coordination with 20/20 corrected vision.
A person of integrity and passion, with a drive to excel and deliver results.
Preferred Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
At least 1 year of experience with overhead crane operations.
At least 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
Understanding of the galvanizing process and related material handling duties.
Working Conditions:
Extreme heat during summer (10-15 degrees above outdoor temperature) and damp, cold conditions in winter.
