Express Employment Professionals in Allen, TX, is seeking a seasoned Director of Automation Engineering to lead and drive innovation in automation strategies for a fast-growing organization in Collin County, TX. This position requires daily on-site attendance and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Align automation strategies with the company’s goals to drive operational efficiency, cost savings, and scalability.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge.

Team Development:

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers specializing in controls, software, and electrical systems.

  • Manage resource planning, team capacity, and delivery timelines in coordination with project leaders.
  • Drive continuous improvement in development and testing processes.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of automation systems.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with scope.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration and clear communication.
  • Regularly monitor and report on team performance, productivity, and output quality.

Technical Expertise:

  • Evaluate, select, and implement cutting-edge automation tools and technologies.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for system design, integration, and maintenance.
  • Provide architectural guidance and ensure adherence to version control practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes, quality, and operational efficiency.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain robust contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Manage departmental budgets and optimize resource allocation for maximum ROI.
  • Supervise daily engineering activities to achieve quality, cost, and innovation objectives.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as project management, quality assurance, and production.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Robotics, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of automation engineering experience, including 3+ years in leadership.

Required Skills:

  • Expertise in controls, automation, and electrical systems design, including robotics, PLCs, SCADA, and IoT.
  • Experience with procedural and object-oriented programming languages, as well as database systems like SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in version control tools and compliance with electrical safety regulations (ISO, ANSI, CSA).
  • Strong leadership, project management, and analytical skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, machine learning, AI applications, and statistical analysis tools.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and MRP systems.
  • Certifications in project management or advanced automation tools.

Special Demands:

  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed to meet production schedules.
  • Ability to travel for supplier visits, training, and other job-related activities.
  • Physical capability to inspect manufacturing processes and equipment.
